Day 7-The Duh Duh Song

     Howdy!!

One week down! I have to say its kind of nerve wrecking to do the whole blog-a-day for a whole year. I mean think of anyone in your life and try to sit down and think of exactly 365 unique memories. Its hard! I'm trying to keep a list on hand so that if I remember something I can write it down because I almost never remember things like that...my memory is pretty bad...So if you ever remember anything you should totally let me know I'd love to hear about it (:

A couple days ago I said something about people always offering me "mom hugs". It's always feels weird when people do that. I mean its not bad, don't get me wrong I love hugs and sometimes you really do need a mom type of a hug but obviously only one person can give me a real mom hug and unfortunately shes not here to give me one. This above paragraph and the picture below have absolutely nothing to do with my memory for the day but I really adore this picture and I felt like posting it. Because who doesn't love a good reminder about how amazing mom hugs are?

Memory #7

For today's memory to make sense you need to be familiar with the song "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega, you only need to listen to about the first 30 seconds of the song. If you've never heard of this song then I will be super surprised, but if you haven't...I'm glad I could introduce you to this magnificent piece of work. (Also please note the sweet dance movies in this video...ha)

It felt like this song used to come on all the time when I was driving with my mom and the song drove her completely nuts. We referred to it as the duh duh song, since we didn't know what the real title of the song was. My mom didn't like this song because she said it was kind of just like talking about super mundane things and the lyrics itself just made you want to scream "WHO CARES?!!?" I mean for real, here's a small sample of the lyrics from this song-

I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner

I am waiting
At the counter
For the man
To pour the coffee

At first we would just say things like "Cool story" or "That's nice" to whatever poor Suzanne Vega wanted to sing about. Then one day we started coming up with our own lyrics that went along with her super catchy song. I can't recall most of the lyrics we came up with but they were really ridiculous, things like (Please sing this to the tune of the duh duh song) "A bird just crapped on my window. It made me real unhappy" or "I'm waiting in the drive thru, to get a quarter pounder because I'm really hungry." Seriously Suzanne Vega, if you're reading, we could have totally helped you write that song. Together we could of won a grammy or something....

Love always,
Erin
